Per Lee Davis, ADEM’s Chief UST Compliance Officer Installers and those repairing UST’s who prior to the effective date of the State of Alabama’s mandatory rule for Certification for UST Installers and those repairing UST’s posses a current certification in the State of Alabama through ALPEC’S Voluntary UST Installer & Repair Certification Program will be considered to meet the requirements of the rule (“grandfathered” in). This is contingent upon acceptance of proof of financial responsibility of $500,000 coverage in contractor’s general liability insurance by an installer certification program approved by ADEM. The installer must also document 16 continuing education hours approved by ADEM every two years. If tanks to be installed are owned by the individual receiving certification, or his/her full-time employer, the financial responsibility is not required”.
